Members opened up about the deeply isolating reality of prurigo nodularis, sharing how difficult it is to make friends and family understand the unpredictable nature of the condition, with many feeling dismissed or misunderstood when they cancel plans or struggle to participate in daily activities. Several members described the emotional toll of visible symptoms, including scarring, embarrassment about showing affected areas to doctors (especially in intimate regions), and the pain of insensitive comments from medical professionals who should know better, while others offered encouragement to advocate for thorough care and named treatments like methotrexate and Cinqbinqo that brought significant relief. A recurring theme was the profound disruption to everyday life, from being unable to enjoy simple pleasures like massages or warm weather to feeling ugly, exhausted, and invisible, yet members lifted each other up with solidarity, practical advice, and reminders that early diagnosis and self-advocacy can make a meaningful difference.

How very disruptive it is to everyday life. Until it's been experienced, it's difficult to imagine how a skin condition can change life so completely.

I totally agree with @A MyPrurigoTeam Member. N addition to her comments, I think we need to talk about how we can get others to understand how PN affects our life. I have had a hard time getting my friends and family to understand PN and why some days I am fine and others I am not. I have tried pamphlets and videos. I think a lot of them believe I am just making excuses to get out of doing things. I try to explain it but they think once I am better, it is all over and I should be fine…like getting over a cold.

My personal hate is the constant reference ( by dermatologists) to the itch scratch cycle. I would love to see them try to avoid scratching these spots!
I have had very itchy skin for nearly 30 years, and have been scratching for that length of time. So, how is it that I have only developed NP eighteen months ago? That’s a hell of a lengthy itch scratch cycle.

II totally understand that! It's hard to do anything like a massage or wear short sleeves when you're hot. I feel so ugly but I thank god for not having it on my face.
