I tried shampoos, both over the counter, as well as prescription shampoo, and every cream, essential oil and ointment available, including prescription, and nothing stopped the itching.
The ONLY treatment that worked was the 100 mg Doxycyclinr twice a day, which I kcontinue to take, along with probiotics every day.
If it were not for this low dosage of antibiotics, I would have continued to have bald patches on my scalp and extremely irritating life-long scalp itching.
My dermatologist prescribed a course of doxycycline for my PN. Amy, could the bacteria you're thinking about be in the staph family?
This doesn’t surprise me. I think that among the people currently diagnosed with PN, there are actually multiple accurate diagnoses that are being missed.
One of those is an unusual bacterial infection for which the only known “cure” is long term antibiotics. Since my so-called PN got so much better after three back-to-back rounds of antibiotics for another condition. I really think that this is the treatment that I need. When I got to the third round of those antibiotics, I failed that what I was seeing in my nodules was becoming smaller less pronounced easier to deal with itching was becoming less pretty much everything I suffer from was resolving, and Indonesian was beginning to heal over. Then I ran out of antibiotics and I was right back to the extreme outbreak I had before.
I’ll see if I can find the name of that infection again and share it here. It was really hard to find in fact a lot of things are kind of difficult to find about on the Internet.
That's wonderful to hear you've found relief from scalp itching! While antibiotics aren't typically mentioned as a first-line treatment for PN, what matters most is that you've found something that works for you. Since everyone responds differently to treatments, it's important to continue working with your healthcare Show Full Answer
