Anyone having issues getting injection medications?

I was taking Dupixent and it was helping, but my insurance company will no longer pay for it. I’m currently only using clobetosol ointment. I did recently get a flare up and exhausted all the copay assistance resources. Anyone else in a similar situation?

While clobetasol ointment can help, it's worth knowing that topical steroids can be less effective for prurigo nodularis because the thickened skin on nodules makes it harder for the medication to penetrate.

It may be worth talking to your dermatologist about other options that could help manage symptoms while you work on the insurance situation. Some alternatives include:

- Phototherapy – UV light treatment targeting nodules
- Cryotherapy – freezing affected areas to reduce itch
- Intralesional steroid injections – steroids injected directly into nodules
- Oral medications – such as antihistamines or nerve-targeting medications like gabapentin
- Methotrexate – an immunosuppressant for more resistant cases On the insurance front, it's worth asking your dermatologist's office if they can help with a prior authorization appeal — sometimes a letter of medical necessity from your doctor can make a difference. Sanofi (the maker of Dupixent) also has a patient support program called Dupixent MyWay, which may have additional assistance options beyond standard copay cards.

Don't give up — there are still avenues worth exploring, and your dermatologist is your best ally in navigating this.

I’m doing ok, thank you for asking. Right now I’m using just clobetasol cream on my scalp. It’s clearing up again, but if I get a new flare up in that area I want to ask my dermatologist for more injections. I’ve responded well to them in the past.

Hi Danielle! How are you? I had another thought. I was very discouraged when Dupixent didn't work for me. I remember that the dermatologist encouraged me by saying that there are other options to treat PN. Perhaps you could have a discussion with your dermatologist regarding alternative medications to treat PN as well as their cost.
