Has anyone already gotten fed up with the pain, scratching, discomfort and most of all bleeding through clothing and bed sheets, comforters? I can’t wait to get home to throw all my clothes off. I have to use and keep moistening my skin all day. My skin is coming off in layers. These doctors are not doing enough. Now I think they waited so long that my back is infected. My God this is the worst I have ever had it medically. HOW DO YOU COPE? I have now requested behavioral health services. I SAW… read more

Members rallied around someone experiencing severe prurigo nodularis symptoms with bleeding, anxiety, and fear of leaving home, sharing both practical remedies and emotional solidarity. Several members recommended specific products like CeraVe cream, cortisone ointment, Aveeno Eczema Therapy, Sarna Itch Relief, and Palmer Skin Therapy Oil, along with medications such as Vistaril, gabapentin, and Lyrica to control itching and anxiety, while emphasizing the importance of cool showers, adequate sleep, and wearing long sleeves to avoid touching affected areas. A recurring theme was the mental health component, with many acknowledging how stress, anxiety, and depression trigger flares, and encouraging the use of therapy, distraction techniques like binge-watching TV, staying home to heal without guilt, and finding hope in small improvements one day at a time.

It sounds to me like anxiety is getting the best of you. I know because I too have been exactly where you more than once. Seeing a therapist can be helpful. What medication has your doctor prescribed for you. If you're bleeding this much then you must get your itching under control. I take Vistiril and ask your doctor for gabapentin or lyrica it will help the itching as well as calm some of your anxiety and give you a chance to heal. Are you getting enough sleep? Because if you aren't sleeping you won't heal. Also corticosteroid cream should help you start to heal. I also have a corticosteroid tape. It is clear and you can use it instead of bandaids and it will keep you from touching and scratching yourself. It's ok to just stay home and rest and get better. That's exactly what I did. If I had to leave the house I would get even more anxious and then I would scratch and rub but one day I told myself I'm not going to scratch and I wore long pants and long sleeves so I couldn't see them and then get your favorite food and beverage and just take a breath and relax and watch TV. I like to binge watch things so that I can get lost in tv land and forget my troubles for awhile. You will see take one day at a time and before you know it your skin will start healing some which will give you the hope you need to regain control over this evil disease.
Take care and hang in there you are not alone.

I use Aveeno Eczema Therapy cream and Sarna Itch Relief...both over the counter recommended by dermatologist. Not a cure, but helps with symptoms.

I have had PN for years but finally got diagnosed recently. I found that the tanning bed would clear up my skin in a few sessions. My PN and Fibromyalgia flare up when I'm stressed, depressed or over tired. Also heat & sweat irritates my skin and scalp. Any hair products with alcohol makes my scalp itch and flare up. I now have PN on my face. So I'm going to go to a tanning salon for a few sessions
Has anyone tried cryotherapy? I've researched the benefits and it reduces inflammation in the body.

I use CereVe cream. The real thick cream in a jar. I also use cortisone ointment. Make sure you shower in cool water. Yes, I too wear pajamas a lot. I take Tylenol for discomfort. I am feeling bad for your pain and I wish I could do more. Also do not let yourself worry about what might happen. Stay positive.
Take care 🙂
