I am taking this article to read that as a result of PN you may suffer anxiety, depression, and others psychiatric symptoms. I think it has been quite a fight to stay ahead of the judgement that it is stress, depression and scratching that causes PN. I have PN primarily and the itching, anxiety and depression come secondary. Take the PN away and the rest would fall away. However take the rest away and the PN will still be there. You would have to be completely detached from your body to deal with this disease without having anxiety and depression as a by-product. I do acknowledge the depression and anxiety and treat it but it is not the cause of this PN.

I was diagnosed with depression many years before I was diagnosed with PN. Agree with you Deb that PN could definitely contribute to depression and anxiety or cause it

Yes, research has shown significant connections between PN and mental health. Studies reveal that people with PN are at higher risk for:

• Depression and anxiety
• Sleep problems
• Mood disorders
• Feelings of shame and embarrassment
• Social isolation It's important to understand that PN is NOT "all in your head" - rather, the physical symptoms of PN (like severe itching and sleep disruption) can contribute to developing anxiety and depression. The relationship works both ways, as mental health challenges can also make PN symptoms feel more severe.

If you're experiencing mental health challenges, know that you're not alone. Mental health support through counseling or other treatments can be an important part of managing life with PN.

TOB, please be careful with ketamine. I'm worried about the practitioners like the one you encountered; taking advantage of people seeking mental healing. I'm aware of your feelings regarding pharmaceuticals and additives but I have been taking an antidepressant since 1996 with no side effects just healing and stability. Brain injuries such as an aneurysm can cause brain chemistries to be affected. An out patient brain injury center may be of benefit to you. I also use daily prayer for mental peace. Saint Dymphna is one of my go to saints. All the best to you.
