Hi Miroslava!! I have some dark pigment in my skin from scratching at the nodules. The pigmentation may fade over time. I would ask your dermatologist if there are any treatments to lighten your skin. Some people have posted trying scar cream, but I don't know if it works. Your best bet is to contact your dermatologist.

Dark spots or hyperpigmentation are a common concern for people with prurigo nodularis (PN). They often develop after nodules heal, scar, or are repeatedly scratched. Here's why they happen:
- Scratching and skin damage — When nodules are scratched or broken open, the healing process can leave behind darker or lighter patches of skin
- Scarring — After a nodule heals, new tissue forms that may appear discolored, raised, or darker than surrounding skin
- Inflammation — Inflamed or irritated nodules can trigger changes in skin pigmentation, especially on darker skin tones where PN lesions may appear purple, blue, brown, or black Managing hyperpigmentation starts with reducing the root cause — the itch-scratch cycle. Some helpful approaches include:
- Avoid scratching — This is easier said than done, but minimizing scratching reduces skin damage and the likelihood of post-inflammatory dark spots
- Use gentle, fragrance-free and dye-free skin products — These help prevent additional irritation that can worsen discoloration
- Phototherapy (UV light therapy) — A dermatologist may recommend this, as it can help with skin symptoms including intense itching that leads to scratching
- Topical treatments — Your dermatologist may prescribe corticosteroids or other topical options to reduce inflammation
Always speak with your dermatologist before trying new treatments, as they can tailor a plan specifically for your skin.
