My diagnosis of this was Lichen Simplex Chronicus which results from a persistent scratching which causes thickening of the skin. Mine encases nodules (lesions) & creates more pain & pressure. I have removed some of mine with tweezers & some does look like hairs even some where hair has tried to grow through some of them as I can actually see the holes where hair was trying to grow from. After removing, it relieves the pain & pressure, but then starts all over again! Mine being on my scalp is horrendous dealing w/the crust stuck on skin & sometimes is more painful than the nodule itself!
