Good evening! Many people with prurigo nodularis (PN) find that the condition significantly impacts their daily lives, including their ability to work or attend social activities. The constant itching, scratching, and lack of sleep can make it difficult to carry out daily tasks. If you are considering applying for disability due to PN, it may be helpful to discuss your situation with your healthcare team to get the necessary documentation and support.

I had to retire early during the pandemic due to my PN symptoms. I worked in a substance use treatment/mental health facility, with recovering addicts and small children. My face was 2/3 scabbed over with active nodules and my forearms and shoulders were also nearly as bad. I did not want to retraumatize small children, nor have everyone questioning whether or not I was using substances (I was not). Skin conditions (despite looking terrible, people assuming contagion, open wounds, etc.) do not typically qualify for disability. Their thinking is that you could do some sort of work, despite your previous income - you could work a paper route or telephone bank, etc. I was still searching for an accurate diagnosis (took 2 more years), and had no medical provider believing it was an actual systemic disease/disorder. I didn't attempt to apply as I knew of a woman w/psoriatic arthritis with plaques covering her face, hands, and arms who didn't qualify.

When you say MEDICAL??? Was it something that was on the disability list or something you had to get approved? So it wasn't from Prugio that you were approved of
