I am dreading if it goes to other areas of my skin like my arms or legs. I got it after a prolonged period of severe mental illness
After an insect bite, I had a PN event on my lower legs which was awful, but the dermatologist managed. Now with adherence to the regime she prescribed, nodules appear one or two at a time. I aggressively treat them as soon as I discover one. Mine start as tiny, raised, red bumps. The scalp lesions start a a lump. I'm thinking with PN, one a regime is started that is successful, stick to it. I use Head and Shoulders Bare as a shampoo for my scalp.
Thanks Cathy. Did you beign your have nodules elsewhere after that?
My PN began on my scalp. At first, the dermatologist suggested the nodules were a result of sweating. It wasn't until a punch biopsy was performed that the diagnosis was confirmed as PN. I was greatful that a diagnosis was found. Since then, I have stuck to a skin care routine. I had a routine for years due to extremely dry skin, so I adjusted products to address the new diagnosis. It includes prescription topical as well as over the counter products.
I hate to say it, Joanne, but it moves. I'm really wondering how much of this is caused by stress. Many mention it and I too had years. Bless you π
Well, it seems like Prurigo Nodularis occurs primarily on my scalp. I have had episodes in the past where my lower legs were involved. Yes, avoiding scratching is ideal but honestly it can be extremely difficult not to scratch. My dermatologist recommended that I take N-Acetyl-Cysteine supplement for the itching. I take 600 mg twice per day. I order it through Amazon and I order the Nutracost brand because it is vegan. I use a humidifier. There are over the counter products that are helpful for your skin and hair. I found them through the articles on this website. If you need help with what products are used, I can tell you mine. I am more than happy to share thoughts with you. Take care.πππ
