I have PN on my scalp. My dermatologist injected the nodules with a small dose of kenalog. I went every 6 weeks for injections. That’s been going on for 2 years. The nodules have gone away but still have LSC from all the scratching. Last time I was there she told me to switch my shampoo to Neutrogena- T Sal.. It seems to be helping.

Donna, whatever helps us deal with PN, do it. I see that with this condition one size does not fit all. My dermatologist informed me that there are many options for treatment; it's a matter of what products or medications work for you. While frustrating, when something heals our skin, it's a yippee moment! Thanks for the suggestion!

Hi Erin! I have PN on my scalp too. I use Head and Shoulders Bare( no additives) , Dove shower soap for sensitive skin, Lubriderm Advanced for dry, itchy skin, and CeraVe Hydration for my face. The dermatologist prescribed Derma Smooth for flares on my scalp, Clobetesol 0.05% for flares on my skin, and N-Acetyl-Cysteine supplement for the itching. So far,I've been somewhat stable with periodic flares. I hope this information helps you.

For topical treatments, your doctor might recommend products containing ingredients like capsaicin, menthol, phenol, camphor, or pramoxine. These can help reduce itching and promote healing. To properly apply medication to your scalp:
1. Part your hair in the middle and apply medication along the part
2. Create parts 2 inches to the right and left of center, applying medication
3. Part above each ear and apply
4. Always wash hands thoroughly after application

Remember to avoid scratching, as this can worsen sores and lead to infection. Using a lightweight, breathable head covering can help prevent direct scratching. Also try to avoid triggers like heat, humidity, and excessive sweating which can aggravate symptoms.
