My dermatologist put me on NAC probably about a year ago. It has helped me a lot. She also put me on Pepcid 20 mg and Zyrtec 10 mg. She started me out on taking it 3 times a day. Then she decreased it to twice a day. Kept me on that dosage for about 6 months. Then she said I could decrease to once a day. But I take the Pepcid and NAC twice a day and the Zyrtec once a day. The itching has decreased significantly.
Thank you for the explanation. I noticed that it relaxes me, although I still have some itching. I'm also using Nutracost brand twice a day. I don't know if this is considered Holistic, but I prefer the natural remedies.
I was put on Pepcid twice a day, L-theanine 1-2 x/day, Beet Extract 1000mg (which I couldn't find, so I finally bought a real beet), & Allegra at night. My itching didn't decrease. Maybe she needed to increase the dosage of Pepcid. I will be meeting with the Ohysician's Assistance in 2 weeks. Good your treatment is working.🤗
My dermatologist recommended N-Acetyl-Cysteine for me. Their reasoning was that since I already had a good amount of prescription medications as part of my medical management. They felt that they wanted to avoid drug interactions as well as side effects. It has worked very well for me so far. The dose is 600 mg twice per day.
Cathy, I wanted you to know that I used Lubriderm Advanced Therapy lotion and am still using it after showering. It is very moisturizing and non-stickey. Thanks for posting what you use.
