My dermatologist suggested Scar Away silicone sheets and they are helping with that. I’m very fair skinned so I was self conscious about the dark scars. 🥺

How can you reduce scarring from prurigo nodularis nodules?

Scarring from PN nodules can be challenging, but there are approaches that may help. The most important step is preventing new scars by managing your condition effectively and avoiding scratching, which can worsen scarring.

Treatment options that may help with existing scars and prevent new ones include:

* Topical corticosteroids to reduce inflammation
* Phototherapy (light therapy) to improve skin appearance
* Immunosuppressive treatments like methotrexate or cyclosporine
* Dupilumab (Dupixent), an FDA-approved injectable medication that helps relieve itching and clear lesions
* Cryosurgery for stubborn lesions that haven't responded to other treatments

After nodules heal, they may leave behind flat dark spots, lighter areas where pigment has been lost, or raised scars. The appearance depends on factors like how long the nodule was there, how much it was scratched, and your skin type.

Working closely with your dermatologist to find an effective treatment plan is key. The less you scratch and the better controlled your PN is, the less likely you are to develop new scars. Some scars may fade over time, though complete removal isn't always possible.

Consider discussing scar-specific treatments with your dermatologist once your PN is under better control.
