Katie2-when we are laying in bed not moving much we often feel more intense nerve pain. Like peripheral neuropathy in people with M.S. or diabetes. The nights are often times brutal. Also, if you get cold at night your heart rate slows down and slows blood flow which can make pain signals stronger. They “think” the nerves in the skin layers that are responsible for the senses, itching, pain, burning, and temperature, are involved with PN.

For me I can deny and talk myself out of discomfort when I am awake. When night comes I get anxious because I sometimes wake up in screaming pain. During the night I didn’t move, reposition myself, take a bath, take something for pain, or any of the things that help with pain and discomfort during the day. I say at least once a night “I will be ok in the morning. So far it is true.

Hi Malinda, I also have PN and LSC on my scalp, I have mop that if my head gets hot on the pillow it causes my scalp to itch more. So I purchased a cooling pillow which helps. My dermatologist has put me on Zyrtec 10 mg twice a day, Pepcid 20 mg twice a day and a supplement called NAC which is supposed to help with itching. Started out taking 1 per day c one week, then twice a day for a week then increase to three times a day. Since going on this regimen the itching has decreased significantly for me. I also apply clobetasol cream to lesions on scalp prior to bedtime. I find if my scalp drys out it starts to itch. So I apply Vaseline or almond oil to lesions to decrease the itching. Hope this helps. I’m hoping if I can decrease the itching that it will eventually improve. The nodules have already gone away. Now have the dry crusty patches from the LSC.

For me during the daytime I'm busy and I'm not thinking about it and it doesn't really bother me so much but as soon as I climbing that bed I'm alone by myself it's just brutal what we can do to our own bodies. In fact well scratch myself for hours before I fall asleep. Especially my head. I don't know if I have a problem with having scabs on me or I don't know maybe somebody could shed some light on that and their situation what they do

Do we know the cause as to why it can be so much worse at night for some of us?

I never thought of the dryer sheets being an issue. I have hydroxyzine. I had to take one last night and a Xanax. Thanks for replying
