“Renvoq” was prescribed by the “study” physician but the multitude of serious side effects made trying it prohibitive for me.

I have the same problem and solution. Paying attention to the first itch and immediate treatment of it seems to slow the spread to other areas. And, it minimizes the strength/ intensity of the itch. Also covering the medicated lesion with clear bandage helps a great deal.
I’ve kept recent lesions very small till the itch subsided by bandaging.

The bumps begin as a small red dot with a sensation of itching. I immediately apply my Clobetesol ointment to it. The process keeps the red light bump from developing into a large nodule.
